Having already become a champion in 1977 and 1978, the Fiat 131 Abarth entered the 1980 World Rally Championship season with the ambition of reclaiming its crown from the Ford Escort. This would be done thanks to the Fiat 131 / Walter Röhrl duo, notable winner of the legendary Monte-Carlo in 1980.
